I wrote about
Peter Corry and his wife,
Karen,
here. I studied Italian with Karen in a night class last year.
This afternoon
Manchester United play
Chelsea in what is seen as a vital contest for both clubs, which stand at Number One and Number Two respectively in the standing of the English Premier League. A crowd of up to 75,000 is expected.
It is close to a year since the death of
George Best. The
Belfast Telegraph reports that, in a tribute to Best before the match, Peter Corry will perform the song
Bring Him Home, which the singer sang at Best's funeral last year in Parliament Buildings, Stormont.
Corry is quoted as saying -
"I know I'll be nervous on the day, but that's why I do this job. I love the buzz you get. Recently I performed at Croke Park [Dublin-Ed] in front of 75,000, but without taking away from that performance, singing at Old Trafford on Sunday will be extra special."
Peter Corry is singing at a concert in Bangor on 9th December. I must get my ticket - it's bound to be a sell-out!
